As parents of two young, enthusiastic children, we have many faced challenges around their upbringing. We, as parents, have constantly tried to play an active and integral part in our children’s education. It became apparent, when we had to travel overseas for a three month work program with the children, that we needed to step up and become more proactive in our children’s day-to-day education.

At the time, both of our children were in the junior years of schooling, and we wanted to ensure that they did not fall behind with any of their schooling requirements while we were away. Naturally, the first point of contact was to have discussions with their teachers to get a good idea of what they needed to achieve in our time away. It was a simple exercise and we managed to get a thorough understanding of what was required. Where the challenge started was when we began to look for material to support the teachers requirements.

After receiving a small amount of exercises from the school, we turned to the internet. We were astounded as to how little there was available to us and how difficult it was to find all the necessary information and guidance in one place. After many frustrating hours of searching, we managed to get enough material together to do the bare minimum and keep the children up to date, with fingers crossed that we had covered what the teachers had required!

This was where the first seed was sown for the creating of EMW. In fact, it was my wife that was looking to create something relatively simple for parents to turn to. Once we had the concept rolling around in our heads, it was amazing how apparent it became as to the lack of material and information available to parents to assist their children. While chatting to other parents we established that something was desperately needed to assist parents to give the best possible support to their children. From a simple, initial concept of getting a small pool of craft worksheets and exercises together, the concept began to evolve into what we present to you today. We are hoping that EMW will support as many children as possible; be it in remote country towns or built up cities, because we can not forget that they are our future generation.
